Today’s journey will take us to a very special place–The Throne Room of Heaven.  In Colossians 3:1-3, Paul exhorts us as believers to be heavenly minded by telling us to “seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.” He further admonishes us to “set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

We have to ‘set’ our minds on things above–and keep it ‘set’ there, because our minds have a tendency to be influenced and drawn away by other things; if we are not careful or disciplined. Too often, I found myself entangled with the cares of this world; work and career affairs–which rendered me ineffective for Kingdom business because I was literally mentally and spiritually exhausted! But thank God for His amazing grace and for the precious Holy Spirit who is committed to our well being. Thank God for that place in Him where we can truly rest–in His promises! He has taken me from the mundane and is moving me along the paths of righteousness!

Now… are you ready for what you are about to experience as you journey to the throne room of Heaven? Have you ever wondered what it’s like and what happens there? Please read the following passages slowly as we engage the Holy Spirit and allow Him to enlighten our understanding.  Let’s begin our journey…

THE THRONE ROOM OF HEAVEN

Isaiah 6:1b-3, (NKJV)
“I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said:“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”

Revelation 4, NKJV
“After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.
Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or nightsaying:

“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”
Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

11 You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
PROTOCOL IN APPROACHING OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
In the natural, I am always careful as to how I enter the presence of someone.  As a little girl, I remember being trained that whenever I see adults speaking, I don’t just ‘run’ into their presence and start speaking.  I was told to stand at a close enough distance, wait for a few seconds, say “Excuse Me”, greet them politely and then say what it is that I wanted.  Funny thing, as an adult, I still find myself doing that at times.  Sometimes I would wait until the conversation is over before I even open my mouth to say anything.  (When it comes to following certain traditions, sometimes I have to remind myself: Heather, you are an adult now…you belong here…It’s OK to speak.) I know that we are in a different culture and as such they are different customs and norms.
As we consider Kingdom protocol, how should we approach God?
In Psalm 100:4, we are instructed to “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
At times, we enter the presence of God and we are cumbered and laden with the cares of this world. The focus of our attention is all about the problems, cares, or concerns. How ‘great’ they are! We end up magnifying the problems or bowing to them; and as a result, even though we went to ‘fellowship’ with God or to pray, we left His presence with the problems still magnified in our hearts and minds because that’s all we focused on.  We did not focus our attention on God.  We didn’t look into His eyes and catch the beauty of His magnificent  love for us.  We didn’t behold the vastness of His kingdom. We didn’t realize that it is His good pleasure to give unto us! We didn’t behold His glory. While we approached Him, we didn’t notice the splendor of His throne and that He is worthy to receive glory and honor and power; and that He created all things! That He is Almighty! That He is All powerful! That He has the power to give you a word in due season; a word that has the capacity to change circumstances and to give you His peace!  His Word has the power to accomplish that which it was sent to do.

I encourage you today, next time that you take on the posture of prayer, do so with this alertness in your spirit man that you are approaching the throne of God; where there is continual worship going on. Go in, take your place around the throne and worship God! Minister to Him! I guarantee you, “that the things of this world will go strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” You will have indeed cast your cares on Him, as you realize just how much your Father cares about you and you will be on your way, charged and energized to fulfill your day’s assignment.
  1. O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free!

    • Refrain:
      Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
      Look full in His wonderful face,
      And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
      In the light of His glory and grace.

  2. His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
    Believe Him, and all will be well:
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!
Keep your mind ‘set’ on things above and operate from that level of purpose, excellence and authority.
